Lauterbrunnen

We asked the children what they wanted to do but got little response. After letting them play, we eventually set off (with our waterproofs in the bag)… and started looking for where the rubbish goes, but carried on down the mountain to Lauterbrunnen. Just over an hour later (Well done Madeleine and James!) we crossed the bridge over the river into town; it looked like Manhattan after Wengen.

Down to Lauterbrunnen

We had a super lunch (Fondue) in a hotel at the side of the road, before walking even further to the waterfall: all open for free, steps cut into the mountain ready to get wet (and for me and Catherine to have kittens about Madeleine falling off).

Approaching the falls

Finally, there was a children’s play area, with a water pump and chute which J and M loved. So very Swiss: all the toys just left there — no-one takes or breaks them

The other very Swiss thing is how much stuff is crammed into gardens: lots of types of veg. and also alpine species as per our old house, including the funny yellow giant thing.

We caught the train one stop back up the mountain, and I carried Madeleine asleep back to out apartment.

Today was also washing day (on the rota) but we didn’t have the necessary power key, so I went back to being an undergraduate and used the laundromat in town (Helped by some friendly Aussies). Our drying was done here after borrowing a key from a friendly Scot.
