Switzerland to Italy
We packed up and left our Wengen apartment by 10am and walked (heaved!) to the Bahnhof.
We took the slightly slower route with longer changes between trains (One was still only 5 mins):
Wengen > Lauterbrunnen > Interlaken Ost > Berne > Zurich
The last train was packed and no-one gives up their seat which has their feet or bags on!
Picked up the hire car and set off… and was really hard to start off, because we couldn’t even tell which road we were on. UK signage is world-class.
Eventually we followed the 4 to Luzern (Green is motorway and blue is local slow route).
The drive was epic, and our 3 hour journey was more like 5.
The Gothard Tunnel was super-long (26km) and the Italian border police just waved us across.
Italy looks totally different. The road from Como to Bellagio is partly single lane, very twisty but ‘Hey’ it’s got great views!
We were met at the apartment at dusk and given the low-down on electricity meters and closing the shutters.
J and C slept upstairs, and G and M downstairs. I had to move four times because Madeleine accused me of being on her side.
