Bellagio and Limonta

Desperately low on supplies (With UHT milk from a service station only) we drove into Bellagio to the supermarket. Catherine needed nerves of steel to manoeuvre our colossus up the one-way street (i.e. Just widee enough for one car only).

Small harbour

On foot, we went down the hill (not far) to Limonta and found the shore and a landing stage before a great fishy lunch at Trattoria da Anna.

First paddle

After lunch we got our swimming costumes and went for a dip in the lake… which was positively balmy after the lido in Wengen.

The contrast between Wengen and here is incredible: as we drove in last night (admittedly in a bit of a hurry) I wondered what on Earth people were doing here, along this wonky road… and now I realise: they’re just hanging out! The pace is all for long lunches and dinners and lazing around. Wengen is much more purposeful—you can’t just make it up as you go along in the mountains quite the same. Also, the nature here feels wilder than in Svizza because it doesn’t look like anyone ever goes beyond the shores of the lakes.
