Canon’s 20D is getting on a bit (in camera years), and after the full frame but (allegedly) affordable 5D, all eyes are on where the semi-pro digital SLRs are going.
Photo.net compares the two (remembering, of course, that the 5D can’t use EF-S lenses), and the debate about Full frame versus 1.6x cropping is never far away…
Anyway, I took the plunge with the 17-40 lens, which people who might go full frame in the future seem to consider a good choice. It’s still wide angle on my 300D, just not super wide (27mm x 64mm ish)
The general drift seems to be that lenses are mature technology and not getting massively cheaper anytime soon, whereas camera bodies are getting better and better for less money all the time. Also, lenses seem to be the key to better piccies, not the body (assuming ceretain basic features are there: aperture control, shutter speed, exposure control and sensitivity to light)
In the UK, the best prices seem to be at T4 althought everyone in the US has the pleasure of B&H in NYC
