Teeline

Wednesday Dec 30, 2020

I don’t know what brought it to mind, but after wondering about shorthand, I did a bit of reading about Pitmann, Gregg and then the new kid (1968 new, ha ha) Teeline.

Apparently it’s still taught to journalists as a lo-tech tool which is still reckoned to be useful when other technology isn’t possible or available.

Maybe it was my shockingly illegible notes from a committee meeting earlier this month from which I was expected to write the minutes.

I still remember being asked back in the days of signing to pay by card (in Liverpool!):

What are you–a doctor or what?

Addie has a short intro at their site realerthinks and has also included a Teeline dictionary, too.

I’ve bought a (second hand) book on Teeline, too, and will see how my love of letters and pens and alphabets and runes translates to learning something actually useful…
